Hopkins Middle School Instrumental Music Department

Elementary String Orchestras

Students study the basics of string instrument technique and music theory. They work on improving their technique and skills through exercises, etudes, small group playing, full orchestra literature, and method book study. Students participate in 2 concerts during the school year. We ask for a one-time donation of $250 to help cover the costs of the program.

Elementary Beginning String Orchestras

  • Open to 4th and 5th graders at Mission San Jose attendance areas & Immersion Schools
  • No experience necessary – Beginners only on Violin, Viola, Cello, String Bass
  • Limit 32 students per class – Students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Class meets in person at Hopkins Middle School
  • Class starts the week of Sep 16, 2025
  • Class Times:
    Beginning Strings (section 1) – Tuesdays 4:00-5:00pm
    Beginning Strings (section 2) – Tuesdays 5:15-6:15pm

Elementary Intermediate String Orchestras

  • Open to 4th and 5th graders at Mission San Jose attendance areas & Immersion Schools
  • Must have 1 year or more experience on Violin, Viola, Cello, or String Bass
  • Class meets in person at Hopkins Middle School
  • Class starts the week of Sep 16, 2025
  • Class Time: Fridays: Intermediate Orchestra 4:00-5:00pm
