FUSD Summer Band/Orchestra Program

 

This 3-week program, which is open to high school, junior high school, and intermediate/advanced elementary band/orchestra students, presents an exceptional opportunity for students to keep up and improve their musical skills during the summer. There must be a minimum enrollment of 45 band students and 20 orchestra students to run these free classes. Attendance is very flexible; students are encouraged to participate even if they are going to miss some classes, but they must perform at the concert on Saturday, July 18, 2020, 6:00 p.m., at Chabot College, Hayward.

Here is some information about the 2020 program:

  • Intermediate Band and Intermediate String Orchestra will be taught by Mr. Cary Nasatir
  • Advanced Band and Advanced String Orchestra will be directed by Mr. Gregory Conway
  • Program runs June 25, 2020 to July 17, 2020
  • Rehearsals held Monday to Friday
  • Intermediate Band and Advanced String Orchestra 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
  • Intermediate String Orchestra and Advanced Band 10:45 a.m. to 12:00 noon
  • Rehearsal venue: Hopkins Junior High School
  • Concert to be held July 18, 2020 at Chabot College, Hayward

Class Descriptions

Intermediate Band (Junior High School Level)
9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

Instructor: Cary Nasatir
Students who have completed Intermediate Elementary Band, Advanced Elementary Band, or at least 1 year of JHS Band, others with director approval. High School students are welcome.

Advanced Band (High School Level)
10:45 a.m. – 12:00 noon

Instructor: Greg Conway
Students currently in 8th grade and have completed JHS Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble or currently in High School-All Levels, others with director approval. Some 7th grade students may be eligible, but they must play in the Intermediate Band also.

Intermediate String Orchestra (Junior High School Level)
10:45 a.m. – 12:00 noon

Instructor: Cary Nasatir
Students who have completed Elementary Intermediate Orchestra, Elementary Advanced Orchestra, or at least 1 year of JHS Orchestra, others with director approval. High School students are welcome.

Advanced String Orchestra (High School Level)
9:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.

Instructor: Greg Conway
Students currently in 8th grade and have completed JHS Advanced Orchestra or currently in High School – All Levels, others with director approval. Some 7th grade students may be eligible, but they must play in the Intermediate Orchestra also.
