Incoming 7th Graders (SY 2021-2022) Hopkins Band and Orchestra Audition Information

ATTENTION all current 6th graders who have registered for Band or Orchestra for school year 2021-2022!

If you would like to be considered for a more advanced band (Symphonic Band) or orchestra (Advanced Orchestra) class placement for 7th grade (2021-2022), you must audition for a spot. Please read on for the specific audition information.

Symphonic Band Audition Requirements (Woodwind, Brass, Percussion)

  1. Fill out the Symphonic Band Audition Form here with your student’s information:  Symphonic Band Audition Form
  2. Download the required audition music and requirements below for your instrument.  There should be 4 major scales, a chromatic scale, and 1 or 2 selections of music for each instrument (all included in the links below).
  3. Make an audio or video (video preferred) recording of the audition.  Each scale can be a separate track/file, but the ENTIRE music selections must be one file with no editing.  Please make sure to review all recordings before sending for accuracy and completeness (incomplete auditions will NOT be accepted).  Make sure audition files are labeled with student’s name and instrument.
  4. Only completed auditions with all requirements (4 scales, chromatic scale, and music excerpts) will be considered.
  5. Send the recorded files to Mr. Conway.  They can be emailed to auditions@musicathopkins.com, or may be shared from a Gmail account (Google Drive) with auditions@musicathopkins.com.  All auditions must be received by 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 9, 2021.
  6. Audition results may not be finalized until August, and students auditioning are not guaranteed a spot in Symphonic Band.  All students not accepted into Symphonic Band will be placed into Concert Band for 7th grade.
